Retreats near Centurion: rest for people who commute between two cities
Living in Centurion often means working somewhere else. The daily journey between Pretoria and Johannesburg eats hours that never reappear. My therapeutic retreats on a farm near Cullinan, under an hour from Centurion, offer a structured pause rather than another thing to schedule.

The particular exhaustion of the commuter belt
Centurion sits between two economic centres, and for many residents that is precisely the point. Suburbs such as Highveld, Eldoraigne, Rooihuiskraal, Irene and Wierdapark offer space and schools while the work stays north in Pretoria or south towards Sandton and Midrand. The trade-off is time spent on the N1 or on the Gautrain, and time spent that way rarely counts as rest.
The result is a specific pattern I see often. People are not unhappy with their lives but they are chronically short of themselves. The day is fully allocated before it starts, weekends fill with the errands that the week made impossible, and the idea of an unstructured hour becomes almost uncomfortable.
That state does not resolve on its own, and it rarely resolves on a holiday that involves more logistics. What helps is a deliberate interruption with someone else holding the structure, which is exactly what a retreat is designed to be.

Getting to the farm from Centurion
From Centurion the farm near Cullinan is generally under an hour. The common route runs north on the N1 and then east on the N4 towards Witbank before turning onto the R513 towards Cullinan. Guests coming from Irene or Highveld sometimes prefer to cut east across Pretoria south and pick up the Cullinan road from there.

Against the flow
You drive away from the commuter corridor, not into it.
The important detail is that the journey runs against the usual commuter flow. You are driving away from the corridor that normally costs you your mornings, which sets a different tone before you have even arrived.
For a weekend retreat, leaving on a Friday afternoon is comfortable. For a day retreat, an early departure gets you to the farm well before the programme begins and home the same evening without a rushed drive.
Ask me for the route details and the next available dates.
Formats built around limited time
The retreats are offered in several lengths so that the format follows your circumstances rather than the other way round.
Two to three days, enough for the body to actually settle rather than merely stop moving.
Details of every format sit on the retreat overview page, and a short questionnaire helps identify which one matches your current intentions.
Tell me how much time you can take and I will recommend the format that fits.
What happens during a retreat
Each retreat combines genuine rest with structured therapeutic work. Mornings often start with movement or meditation, the middle of the day holds the reflective sessions, and the afternoon is left open on purpose. Walking, the hot tub, reading or doing nothing at all are part of the programme rather than gaps in it.
Depending on the retreat type the work involves guided conversation, journaling, mindfulness practice, creative exercises or silence. Meals come from our chef and are eaten together, which for people used to eating at a desk turns out to be more significant than it sounds.
You need no prior experience of meditation, yoga or therapy, and no particular fitness. Comfortable clothes and a willingness to slow down are enough. Everything else we clarify in the introductory call.

Choosing between the retreat types
When exhaustion is the main issue
The mental health and therapeutic retreat is the usual starting point. It is designed for people who still function but no longer recover, and it combines rest with the work of understanding what caused the depletion.
When stress has become physical
The body detox and reset retreat addresses the point at which tension, disrupted sleep or digestive complaints have become the loudest signal. Movement, nutrition and reflection work together rather than separately.
When the relationship is what needs attention
Couples retreats are built around three steps: reconnecting, understanding each other’s perspective and committing to concrete habits. They suit partners who run a household efficiently but have stopped genuinely meeting.
When words are not the right tool
Expressive art retreats use creativity therapeutically, with no artistic ability required. Silent retreats take the opposite route and remove language altogether. Yoga and meditation retreats offer a gentler entry point through breath and movement.
Describe where you are at the moment and I will suggest the retreat that matches.
Why this is not a wellness weekend with extra steps
There are excellent lodges and spas within an hour of Centurion, and they do something valuable. A therapeutic retreat does something different. I am a therapist, systemic coach and couples counsellor, and the programme is built so that the recovery is accompanied by understanding.
Systemic therapy looks at how you interact with your environment and the people in your life. We work with your strengths and resources rather than cataloguing your problems. The practical result is that you take home more than rest: a clearer account of what has been happening and tools you can use once the ordinary week resumes.
To be clear about the limits: these retreats are therapeutically grounded but they do not replace psychotherapy or medical treatment. For acute concerns the SADAG helpline is free on 0800 567 567. If you are unsure whether a retreat is appropriate for your situation, ask before booking.
Uncertain whether you need rest or treatment? Ask and you will get a straight answer.
Continuing afterwards, in Menlyn Maine or online
For Centurion residents both of my consulting locations are reachable. Menlyn Maine in Pretoria is the nearer of the two, Sandton is the alternative for anyone whose work sits south, and virtual sessions remove the travel question entirely.
Many guests book a single integration session two or three weeks after the retreat to consolidate what shifted. Others move into ongoing individual counselling, couples counselling or coaching. Neither is expected, and nothing is sold to you while you are on the farm.
For German speakers the whole process can run in German, from the first call through the retreat to any follow-up. That is uncommon in South Africa and for many people it changes how much they are able to say.
Book a session in Menlyn Maine, in Sandton or online, whichever fits your week.
About Juliane
My training is in systemic therapy, and I work as a therapist, systemic coach and couples counsellor, registered as a counsellor in independent practice in South Africa. My qualifications are a Master of Science in psychology and a master’s degree in management, and I spent years as a consultant leading teams in several companies before moving into therapeutic work.
That background matters here. The pressure described by people who spend two hours a day in traffic and the rest of it delivering is not abstract to me. I host all retreats myself and work with co-facilitators for formats such as yoga, expressive art and body reset.
Reach me on +27 67 161 4603, also on WhatsApp, or at juliane@reflectwithjuliane.com. The first fifteen minute call is free and without obligation.

Frequently asked questions about retreats near Centurion
How long is the drive from Centurion?
Generally under an hour, usually via the N1 north and the N4 east towards the Cullinan turnoff. The route runs against the normal commuter flow, so it is rarely the slow part of the day.
Can I do a retreat without taking leave?
Yes. Day retreats and weekend retreats are designed exactly for that. Many guests from Centurion start with a single day before committing to a longer format.
What is included in a retreat?
Accommodation for overnight formats, meals prepared by our chef, all guided sessions and use of the farm, including walking routes and the hot tub. The exact inclusions depend on the format and are confirmed in your quotation.
Do I need experience with meditation or yoga?
No. Every practice is guided so that beginners can take part fully. Nothing on the programme depends on flexibility, fitness or prior knowledge.
Can I attend with my partner?
Yes. Couples retreats run over a weekend or as a customised programme, structured around reconnecting, understanding each other and agreeing practical habits for afterwards.
How much does a retreat cost?
The cost depends on format, length and group size. Tell me which retreat interests you and you will receive a transparent quotation with no hidden extras.
Are children welcome?
Family retreats are one of the offered formats and are designed for families as a whole. Adult retreats are kept adult, so that participants can work without divided attention.
In which language are the retreats held?
In English or German. German speaking guests can have the entire experience in German, including the planning conversation and any follow-up sessions.
Does a retreat replace psychotherapy?
No. The retreats are therapeutically grounded but do not substitute for psychotherapy or medical treatment. For acute concerns the SADAG helpline is free on 0800 567 567.
Where can I have follow-up sessions?
In Menlyn Maine in Pretoria, in Sandton, or online. Menlyn Maine is usually the closer option for Centurion residents, and virtual sessions work well when the diary is unpredictable.
