Retreats near Waterfall and Kyalami: leaving the estate behind for a weekend
Waterfall and Kyalami are designed to have everything on site. What they cannot provide is a place where nothing is expected of you. My therapeutic retreats sit under an hour away on a farm near Cullinan, where the structure is held by someone else and the day is not a schedule you built.

Estate living and the paradox of arranged leisure
Waterfall City, Kyalami Estates, Blue Hills and the surrounding developments have made a virtue of self-sufficiency. Gyms, schools, restaurants, shops, running routes and green space are all within the boundary, and for busy households that removes a great deal of friction. Life is efficient in a way that older suburbs cannot match.
The unintended consequence is that leisure becomes another category to manage. The run is scheduled, the class is booked, the weekend is allocated. Everything is available and almost nothing is unplanned. For a nervous system that has been running on structure all week, more structure is not the remedy.
What a retreat provides is the one thing an estate cannot: a period in which you are not the one deciding what happens next. That sounds minor and it is usually the part guests find hardest and most valuable.
Book a free fifteen minute call and we will look at what stepping out would involve.

The drive from Waterfall and Kyalami
From Waterfall or Kyalami the farm near Cullinan is generally under an hour. The common route runs north on the N1 towards Pretoria and then east on the N4 towards Witbank, before turning onto the R513 towards Cullinan. Guests on the eastern side sometimes prefer the R21.
Drive time
Generally under an hour from Waterfall or Kyalami.
The route
N1 north → N4 east → R513, or the R21 from the eastern side.
Against the flow
Away from the Allandale and New Road congestion, not into it.
That distance makes both a day retreat and a weekend entirely practical. It also means you are driving against the usual flow, away from the Allandale and New Road congestion that normally shapes the working week rather than into it.
Exact directions and arrival times are confirmed once your dates are set, along with anything else you want to know before leaving.
Send me your preferred dates and I will confirm the route and timings.
Formats and how deep to go
A full day on the farm with reflective work, mindfulness, time outdoors and a shared meal. The simplest way to find out whether this suits you, and easy to arrange around family commitments.
Two to three days, which is where most guests notice a real difference. The first evening is usually about arriving, and the work becomes possible once that has happened.
Up to a week, an intensive ten day healing programme, or a fully customised retreat for you, your partner, your family or a small group of friends who want to do this together.
Tell me how much time you can take and I will recommend the right depth.
Which theme fits which situation
For exhaustion, prolonged stress and periods when the week no longer restores anything.
When stress has become physical, through tension, poor sleep or digestive complaints.
For partners running a household well and meeting each other rarely.
For the household as a whole, particularly after a difficult year.
For people who already know the problem and need the input to stop.
Creativity used therapeutically, with no artistic ability required.
Breath, movement and stillness, suitable for complete beginners.
For those standing at a genuine turning point.
Describe briefly where you are and I will suggest the format that matches.
A day on the farm
There is a rhythm rather than a programme to keep up with.
Morning
Mornings tend to begin with gentle movement or a short meditation.
The middle of the day
The therapeutic work sits in the middle of the day: guided sessions, journaling, reflective conversation or creative exercises, depending on the retreat.
Afternoon and evening
Afternoons are deliberately unstructured.
Meals are prepared by our chef and eaten together. There are walking routes on and around the property, a hot tub and shaded space to sit in. The farm is in open bushveld outside Cullinan with no through traffic, and the difference from an estate at night, where security lighting never quite goes off, is immediate.
You need comfortable clothes and a willingness to slow down. No prior experience of yoga, meditation or therapy is expected, and there is no fitness requirement. Everything else is covered in the introductory call.
Book your call and we will go through what the days would actually look like.
Why this is not another wellness offering
Waterfall and Kyalami residents are not short of wellness options, and many of them are good. The distinction here is the therapeutic frame. I am a therapist, systemic coach and couples counsellor, and each retreat is designed so that recovery is paired with understanding what caused the depletion in the first place.
My approach comes from systemic therapy, which looks at how you interact with your environment and the people in your life. We work with your strengths and resources rather than only your difficulties. What you take home is not only rest but a clearer account of the pattern and a small set of tools you can use in ordinary conditions.
An honest limit: these retreats are therapeutically grounded but they do not replace psychotherapy or medical treatment. For acute concerns the SADAG helpline is free on 0800 567 567. If you are unsure whether a retreat is right for your situation, ask before you book.
Not sure whether you need rest or something more? Ask and you will get an honest assessment.
Continuing afterwards, in Sandton or Menlyn Maine
Waterfall and Kyalami sit almost equidistant between my two consulting locations. Face to face appointments are available in Sandton and in Menlyn Maine in Pretoria by arrangement, and virtual sessions work well when the week does not allow travel.
A single integration session two or three weeks after the retreat is a common choice, particularly for couples who want their agreements to survive the return to normal life. Others move into ongoing counselling or coaching. Neither is expected and nothing is proposed to you during the retreat itself.
German speaking guests can work in German throughout, from the first conversation through the retreat to any follow-up. That combination is uncommon in South Africa and often makes a substantial difference to what people are able to say.
Book a session in Sandton, Menlyn Maine or online, whichever suits your week.

How far is the farm from Waterfall or Kyalami?
Generally under an hour, via the N1 north and the N4 east towards the Cullinan turnoff, or the R21 for guests on the eastern side. The route runs against the usual commuter flow.
Can I come for a single day?
Yes. Day retreats are practical from this distance and are a common first step before committing to a weekend or longer.
Is there accommodation on site?
Yes, for all overnight formats. The arrangement depends on the retreat and the group size and is confirmed with your quotation before booking.
Can we bring the children?
Family retreats are designed for the household as a whole. Adult retreats are kept adult, so that participants can work without divided attention.
Do I need experience with yoga or meditation?
No. Every practice is guided so that beginners can take part fully, and nothing depends on fitness, flexibility or prior knowledge.
What is included?
All guided sessions, meals prepared by our chef, use of the farm including walking routes and the hot tub, and accommodation for overnight stays. Inclusions vary by format and appear in your quotation.
What does a retreat cost?
The price depends on the format, the length and the number of participants. Tell me what interests you and you will receive a transparent quotation with no hidden extras.
Can we come as a couple?
Yes. Couples retreats run over a weekend or as a customised programme, structured around reconnecting, understanding each other’s perspective and agreeing habits that hold afterwards.
Are the retreats offered in German?
Yes. I work in German and English, and German speaking guests can have the whole experience in German including planning and follow-up sessions.
Where can I have follow-up sessions?
In Sandton or in Menlyn Maine in Pretoria by appointment, or online. From Waterfall and Kyalami both locations are comparably accessible.
