Health and Growth at Work: Why Mental Wellbeing Drives Performance

Your experience and adventures as well as your goals are my top priority

Mental Wellbeing and Growth Are Interconnected

I am passionate about health and growth. Many assume self-care reduces drive or ambition, but research in systemic coaching emphasizes that wellbeing fuels performance rather than diminishes it (de Haan, 2017). True growth emerges from vitality and curiosity, not pressure, just like a child’s natural drive to explore and learn.

Mental Health Is Foundational to Performance

Workplaces often treat mental health as optional, fearing it may lower productivity. This assumption is mistaken: emotional wellbeing directly affects performance. Cognitive self-trust enhances focus and decision-making, emotional balance increases motivation and resilience, and supportive social environments strengthen collaboration (Grant, 2014; Edmondson, 2019). The inner state of employees defines their output.

Self-Acceptance Accelerates Learning and Innovation

Studies in psychology and organizational behavior show that self-acceptance fosters faster learning, greater risk-taking, and stable confidence (Neff, 2003). Self-criticism narrows attention and stifles creativity, while self-compassion expands possibilities. Growth is not about fixing oneself but supporting oneself to expand (de Haan, 2017).

Organizational Programs Demonstrate Measurable Benefits

Programs like Google’s Search Inside Yourself and SAP’s mindfulness initiatives demonstrate that self-awareness and emotional intelligence improve productivity, collaboration, and innovation (Goleman & Boyatzis, 2017). When employees feel safe and valued, they perform at their best.

Sustainable Change Requires Consistent Support

Sustainable workplace transformation depends on regular reflection, coaching, and leadership development integrating psychological safety, emotional intelligence, and growth mindset principles (Edmondson & Lei, 2014). One-off workshops are insufficient; wellbeing and excellence must grow together through continuous practice and shared belief.
